Scuba divers’ group surveys Paoay beach for diving potential

Adriano Staff reporter Paoay , Ilocos Norte—The enormous potential of Ilocos Norte as a premiere tourist destination in this northern gateway of Luzon goes beyond its historical and cultural landscape as professional divers from the Philippine Scuba Divers Association (PSDA) will conduct an initial survey and explore this province’s rich marine environment. 2 LC gov’t employees face theft raps

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Laoag City —The city’s police arrested two employees of the Laoag City government detailed at the city engineering office on Nov. 22, 2014 for allegedly stealing fuel from a city government vehicle. The two employees were identified as Valentine Agcaoili, 29, single of Brgy. 30-B Sta. Maria and Devid Melchor, 35, single and also a resident of 30-A Suyo, both are operators of heavy equipment of the city government. City police chief P/Supt. Jeffrey T. Gorospe said that the employees were caught in the act of stealing diesel fuel intended for the heavy equipment at the city landfill. Mr. Gorospe said that elements of his station immediately conducted an intensified follow up investigation after they received numerous reports purportedly about stealing fuel and that the two were arrested at the secluded area particularly at the eastern portion of the sanitary landfill while in the act of stealing and at same time selling it to a ma

Laoag gov’t urges barangays to install own CCTV system

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Laoag City —Citing the need to step up efforts to prevent crime and to keep peace and order in the city, Laoag mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas has thrown her support for the proposal to have barangays in Laoag install their own closed-circuit television (CCTV) system. This move, she said, would also prod technological advancement for the barangays in looking over the growing population here. Primarily, the CCTV system would help the police in monitoring illegal activities in the province as well as fast response to accidents. Ms. Fariñas disclosed that several barangay officials have already signified their intention to put up their own CCTV system through their equal sharing account for next year. The neophyte mayor stressed that the CCTV system is most applicable for urban barangays in the city since these are the areas where crowds and motorists flock to every day.
