Laoag mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas personally made the announcement after DOST officials visited the city to firm up plans for the school. Mrs. Fariñas added that the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) already issued a certification approving the proposed school site. The MGB is the primary government agency under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) responsible for the conservation, management, development and proper use of the country’s mineral resources including those in reservations and lands of public domains. If House Bill (HB) 6152 becomes a law, companies will reduce the number of workdays by increasing the usual eight-hour workday to a 10- or 12-hour workday. Ricardo Tolentino, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Ilocos Norte chapter expressed concerns that this may have a negative impact on the productivity of small businesses and local work force as well. While acknowledging that the compressed four-day work week could help solve heavy traffic in Metro Manila, Ricardo pointed out it is just a “band-aid solution” to the problem. “What we need is a long-term solution to traffic. The travel expo held at the SMX Convention Center in Metro Manila gathers local government units (LGUs) along with hospitality and business establishments to showcase their best packages, promotional deals, and other tourism-related services. According to Ilocos Norte provincial tourism officer Aian Raquel, Ilocos Norte's participants were "very satisfied with the result of their sales—that’s the best indicator of the success of our presentation because this is a trade show. It is important that we were able to promote our province through the sales of our private counterparts."
