DA turns over rice processing complex in Dingras

Adriano Staff reporter Dingras , Ilocos Norte—As the province of Ilocos Norte celebrated its 200 th founding anniversary on February 2, 2018, farmers in Dingras town also rejoiced with the turn-over of multi-million rice processing complex. Representatives of the Department of Agriculture led by regional executive director Lucrecio Alviar and Dingras officials led the ribbon cutting ceremony of the modern rice processing center here. Operated by the Sarusar Federated Irrigators Association, they obtained the PHP4.5 million rice processing center in this town through a grant from the DA with a counterpart fund from the local government unit and the local farmers association. Carasi hosts prov’l Boy Scout jamboree

Adriano Staff reporter LAOAG CITY—Around 3,000 young boys from the 21 towns and two cities of the province are in the mountainous town of Carasi, some 30 kilometers northwest of Laoag, for the 71 st Provincial Boy Scout Jamboree slated from January 18-21, 2018. With a favorable weather, Carasi mayor Rene Gaspar said the indigenous peoples (IP) community are eager to share their ‘piece of paradise’ to the delegates. He said they have coordinated everything with concerned authorities particularly the Philippine National Police and the barangay tanods to ensure the safety and security of the participants. Laoag bishop enjoins residents to work for peace, prosperity

Ilocos Norte board holds hearing on illegal cockfighting events

LAOAG CITY—The Sangguniang Panlalawigan held a joint committee hearing to tackle alleged illegal cockfighting activities in the province and in this city. SP member Vicentito “Toto” M. Lazo, committee on games and amusement chairperson invited cockpit aficionados to “pore over facts and procedures in a certain fight provided by the Presidential Decree (PD) 449 or the cockfighting law”. During the hearing, Mr. Lazo asked Alejandro “Bong” Taylan, sole proprietor of the Golden Blade Cockpit Arena (Laoag City Sports Center) on who acted as the promoter of the controversial 4 th Bakbakan which, he said the provincial board did not allow.
