Laoag City—The Ilocos Norte government is extending its financial
assistance to the poorest primary schools in the province by paying their
average monthly electric consumption of its students and teachers.
Dubbed as the “Kuryente mo, sagot ko” program, the Ilocos
Norte government under the administration of Governor Ma. Imelda “Imee” R.
Marcos has been paying the electric bills of some selected school beneficiaries
in support of one of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of the provincial
government to achieve 100 percent free education among primary schools here.
This August, Ms. Marcos has approved a total of P267,461
to pay the accounts of some 171 MDG schools covering the poorest schools of
Bacarra, Badoc, Bangui, Banna, Burgos, Carasi, Currimao, Dingras, Dumalneg,
Marcos, Nueva Era, Pagudpud, Pasuquin, Piddig, Pinili, Sarrat, Solsona and
Vintar including 64 non-MDG schools in the remote primary schools of Vintar,
Solsona, Pinili, Piddig, Pasuquin, Paoay, Pagudpud, Marcos, Currimao, Burgos, Banna
and Bangui.
In her letter addressed to Schools Division
Superintendent Araceli Pastor, the governor said that the province will only
pay for the school’s average monthly bill and not the actual total amount due
in every month. The excess amount from the total amount due shall be paid by
the school.
Based on the latest billing, the school-beneficiaries’
average electric consumption ranges from P5,000 to P115.
