PGIN awards MINC cards to PUJ, tricycle drivers

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos awards MINC cards to PUJ and tricycle drivers Feb. 5, 2016 at the Ilocos Norte Capitol.

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through the Metro Ilocos Norte Council (MINC) awarded membership cards to public utility jeepney (PUJ) and tricycle drivers at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.

Awarding was held alongside the Philippine National Police (PNP) Awards and during Open Capitol Day, highlights of Ilocos Norte's 198^th Foundation Anniversary celebration.

There are 2,111 cardholders and registered members of MINC at present. Tricycle drivers receive a P6 discount per liter of gasoline (maximum of five liters a day) at the MINC station; meanwhile, jeepney drivers get a P4 discount per liter of diesel (maximum of 30 liters a day).

In addition to the gas and diesel discounts, cardholders also enjoy medical benefits, namely: a 10% discount at all Generika pharmacies, and life insurance from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), point-of-care. (Mizpah Grace G. Castro)

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
