Laoag gov’t names top 2017 taxpayers

Laoag City—The city government here announced the top 10 business taxpayers for 2017.

City treasury officer-in-charge Diomedes Gayban said that the top taxpayers paid the highest business tax and at the right time.

Under the national-owned businesses, the city government identified Wilcon Depot Incorporated which paid the highest business tax in the amount of PHP3.5 million; followed by Super Shopping Market, Inc., Sanford Marketing Corp., Globe Telecom Inc., Puregold Price Club Inc., Jollibee Foods Corporation (Ge, Segundo Ave.), K Servico Trade Inc.-Laoag, Jollibee Foods Corporation (Bonifacio St.), Pepsi Cola and McDonald’s (Trese Martires St.).

For the local-owned businesses, the Laoag Solid 8 Corporation paid the highest business tax in the amount of PHP1.3 million followed by Laoag Generations Corporation, One-O-Five, Mong Ding Construction Supply, The New Laoag Auto Supply, New Johnson Bazar, Laoag Kambal Corporation, Hi-Factor Iontech Digital Industries Corporation, CSew Northcoast Trading Corporation.

The city government also recognized the top ten taxpayers at the Laoag City Commercial Complex: the St. William Drug Corporation paid the highest business tax in the amount of PHP232,315.47 followed by Joan Nacnac, Mario Mariano, Charito Caday, Sherwin Sumera, Reneliz Raquinio, Jennie Marie Nanay, Nemesia Baptista, Rowena Corpuz and Ronalyn Angeles.

Mr. Gayban said they gave plaques of recognition to all the awardees during simple rites held at the Laoag City Auditorium on March 15, 2018.

Laoag mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas congratulated all the awardees for “being a part of the city’s growing businesses and for being prompt in paying and timely in the payment of their business taxes every year”.

The mayor hopes other businesses would follow the same so they can also avoid the penalties from the city government.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
