Laoag City—Mister Laoag 2020 Cyrax Miguel is set to join the nationwide search for Misters of Filipinas on September this year representing this city.

Laoag councilor and Sangguniang Panlalawigan ex-officio member Handy Lao made the announcement during the first press conference with the Mister of Laoag 2020 winners held at the Vertext main office.

Mr. Lao said the Mister Laoag organization will always support the winners regardless of their chosen career.

Mister Laoag ABC 2017 and “Worldwide King” Carlo Pasion has already entered the entertainment as one of the Mr. Macho Men winners and a “Dabarkadz” in a noon time show “Eat Bulaga”; while Mister Laoag 2019 Diego Nacnac is now a full-pledged businessperson.

Mr. Lao, who organized the male pageant in Ilocandia, believes that Ilocanos has also the ability to showcase not only the beauty of the Ilocanas but also the handsomeness of Ilocanos.

He added that Mr. Miguel will automatically represent Laoag in the Misters of Filipinas to be held in Manila on September.

Aside from Mr. Miguel, Mr. Lao also promised to look for a national pageant for Miss Laoag 2020 to also represent the city.

The winners expressed their “deepest thanks” to all the organizers and the city government of Laoag headed by Mayor Michael Marcos Keon for giving them their chance to become the Misters of Laoag.

Mr. Miguel likewise expressed his willingness to follow the footsteps of Mr. Pasion, who was crowned Misters of Filipinas Ocean 2017 and represented the country in Mr. Model Worldwide 2018 held in New Delhi, India on December 23, 2018 where he became the title holder.

After which, Mr. Pasion tried his luck in “Eat Bulaga” and he emerged one of the top five winners in their “Mr. Macho Men” search. He later became a regular “Dabarkadz” in the GMA noon time show.

Right after the press conference, the winners signed their exclusive contract with Mister Laoag in front of the organizer.

Mr. Lao noted that the winners should consult the organization first before they enter into any contract related to pageants they wish to join or participate until their reign as Mister Laoag 2020 ends.

The winners are not allowed to pose nude, or engage in lewd, or lascivious activities including but not limited to social media and they should always maintain “positive image and behavior” which will not inappropriate photos and profane language.

If the title holder does not meet the qualifications set by the Misters of Filipinas organization, the next top four who pass the qualification will represent the city in the said nationwide search.

The winners received cash prizes of PHP50,000, PHP30,000, and PHP20,000 for Mister Laoag 2020, Mister Laoag ABC Byron Paul Salamanca and Mister Laoag Millennial Joecaner Orap Jr., respectively. While first runner-up Cris Mark Andres and second runner-up John Nino Corcuera received PHP10,000 each.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
