Marcos town eyes new municipal hall

Marcos, Ilocos Norte—The municipal government here proposed three-storey town hall from the existing 50-year-old two-storey old building.

Marcos town mayor Antonio Mariano announced this in an interview saying, “it’s about time to construct a new building municipal hall of Marcos”.

As of press time, the mayor said all offices at the municipal hall are all getting ready in transferring their office supplies and equipment temporarily to the rural health unit (RHU), ABC building and other offices outside the municipal hall.

“Makita tay metten a daan detoy municipyo tayon ta agob-obo pay ketdin no kasta nga agtudo ta agarup nasursurok payen ngem 50 years nan,” Mariano said.

The neophyte mayor added that the municipal government has applied for a loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) in the amount of PHP132 million with a 2.5% percent interest per annum payable for 15 years.

The mayor hopes that construction will start early 2021.

Relative to this, the mayor appealed to the municipal employees to cooperate with the new set up, especially to the people of Marcos, “to be more understanding due to the proposed construction of new and modernized municipal hall”.

Meanwhile, Mariano also announced that there will be no town fiesta this coming March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Definitely there will be no fiesta next year because of the pandemic ken maysa pay madama a matartarimaan ta municipal auditorium,” Mariano noted.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
