Batac
City—Mayor Jeffrey Jubal Nalupta announced
that the city’s 8th Batac Festival is now all set with the help of
the city council, the fiesta committee and the people behind the organization
of the fiesta.
The festival was kicked-off by
colorful and bright 25 big floats from the different clustered barangays,
national government and private agencies, and schools and business
establishments during the electric and lights parade held December 8 which was
attended by thousands of local and foreign tourists and with Ilocos Norte Governor
Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos as special guest.
Ms. Marcos congratulated and
saluted Batac’s officials for staging this rare parade in the country and the
first for the province.
The governor also teased that
she will borrow the floats for display as they feature the different Christmas
celebrations in the world.
For his part, Mr. Nalupta was
elated with the success of the lights parade as he disclosed that he targets 30
floats to participate next year.
The parade was followed by a
free concert of the 6 Cycle Mind.
Mr. Nalupta also divulged
that they are looking for sponsors for the parade so as not to put heavy
financial burden for the barangays during their fiesta celebration as well as
other major events in the city.
He added that a big
telecommunication company has begun sponsorship of the Batac fiesta. He said he
hopes to invite more sponsors in the coming years.
Lined up for the celebration
this years are special events including the Senior Citizens Coronation Night,
Integrated Day Care Center Coronation Night, Tanod Night, 3rd Sabado
Night, Kapwa Kasapi Night, MMSU Night and the Mayor’s Night featuring Brownman
Revival.
Other activities also feature
the Capitol Express, Inter-Hi Basketball Championship Games, Inter Elementary
basketball Tournament, Alay Kay Kosa Gift Giving, MDG Christmas Caravan and
Trailheads Bikefest.
The highlights of the
celebration will be the Mrs. Batac KALIPI Plus Size Queen and Bingo Socials,
Night of 400 Voices, Operation Pinagririnnanod Iti Paskua, Search for Little
Miss Batac 2014, Balikbayan Night 2014, Search for Ms. Batac and Ms. ABC Batac
2014, Puericulture Night Coronation and Ball, Best of the Best Motorcycle Show
and Competition, and Aweng ni Batacqueño Grand Finals on December 22-29.
Alumni homecoming for Immaculate
Concepcion Academy (ICA) and the Batac Institute Grand Alumni on December 28
and 30 respectively are also scheduled.
The mayor vowed that this
year’s month-long fiesta celebration will be successful and joyous for the
people of Batac and visitors from the other parts of the country and abroad.
