Search for best 2015 Ilocos Norte T-shirt design on

Laoag City—Calling all local artists and printers, the Ilocos Norte government in cooperation with Samtoy Books and the Laoag Graphics Engineering Designs will be holding a search for the best 2015 Ilocos Norte T-shirt design contest open to all professional, amateur or students here.

Set on December 8 at the La Tabacalera Ilocano Lifestyle Center in Laoag City, the second T-shirt festival offers participants an opportunity to win cash prizes and a chance to promote their work of art through T-shirt design printing.

The festival hopes to inspire more artists to exhibit their talents and highlight the rich Ilocano culture, talent and heritage in the form of artsy T-shirts made in Ilocos Norte.

A possible business opportunity also await winners for consignment with the Ilocos Norte government’s tourism programs and promotions.

To promote small and medium enterprise, Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos supports the conduct of trade fairs and exhibits showcasing unique Ilocano products to boost local livelihood and job generation in the province.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
