40 police trainees beef up Laoag police

Laoag City—This city police chief, P/Supt. Jeffrey T. Gorospe announced that 40 police trainees are going to beef up the force for five months.

The trainees are from different parts of the country and will fulfil their on-the-job training requirement here.

He further explained that the trainees will later be detailed at the National Capital Region.

For their training, the police trainees are detailed with the investigation, traffic and patrol sections and would regularly be rotated. As for accommodation, the trainees are staying at the city police station.

Mr. Gorospe stressed that the timing is good for the city as the new school year has opened and the city’s police force usually lacks personnel during this time.

Police officers are scattered to the different schools around the city as part of their “Balik Eskwela” security program.

However, Mr. Gorospe pointed out that despite the arrival of police trainees, their usual “force multipliers” should also continue to assist and help the police in their duties. In the forefront of these force multipliers are the barangay security officers.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
