Annak ti Sinait goes on a medical mission in Sinait

“THE WHOLEHEARTED support and free services rendered by a number of doctors, nurses, midwives and other volunteers made our Sinait medical mission a successful event,” said Augusto “Gus” Concepcion, Hermie and Bill Gaspar, who all the led the Sinait mission from December 18-22, 2015. The medical mission was held at the Sinait Municipal Auditorium.

Services provided by the group include—but not limited to—circumcision, dental, and distribution of medical supplies.

Gus Concepcion is the Annak Ti Sinait Iti Hawaii president with Herminia and William Gaspar both officers of the Sinait Alumni and the Annak Ti Sinait.

The individuals who provided services include: Dr. Nestor Iloreta, Ma. Kristina Concepcion, Priscilla Idica Rebolllo, Nancy Rebollo, Kristie Cabrera, Jean Mangrubang. Luz Vivian Aurellano, Nancy Yagumyum, Mandol Nueva, Czarina Nueva, Eduardo Ibanez, Francis Nueva, Monique Yadao, Magno Sol. HELPERS: Grace Tumbaga, Ann Ingel, Clarissa Manding, Cynthia Guimayen. For the record, this is the continuation of the previous medical, dental mission by the group in 2009, 2012, and 2014

During the mission, some members of the group also participated in the official unveiling and dedication of the Sto. Cristo Milagroso, more popularly known as “Apo Lakay” or Black Nazarene held December 18, 2015 at Dadalaquiten Norte in Sinait, Ilocos Sur. The unveiling ceremonies and blessing was officiated by Rev. Fr. Soller of St. Nicholas Parish in Sinait. The occasion was attended by number of barangay and municipal officials and other leaders.

Note: the parcel of property was donated by the Iloreta family from Sta. Cruz, Sinait, Ilocos Sur through an official Deed of Donations as executed and performed.

Construction funds came from fundraisings and from voluntary donations from individual, group and families. Both the medical mission and the Sto. Cristo Milagroso Marker joint projects of the Annak Ti Sinait Iti Hawaii and the Sinait National High School Alumni Association of Hawaii, both non-profit organizations duly registered at the DCCA-Hawaii.

Other projects include scholarship, membership benefit, support for the municipality and for the high school projects. Both organizations are members of the Ilocos Surian, Oahu Filipino Council, the United Filipino Council of Hawaii.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
