January 19, 2016

Wen, adda dagiti panagbirok
Iti kinaasino itoy a panagtawataw,
Wenno panagkallautang dita ken ditoy
Uray sadiay
Ala, amirisem man ti riknam
[Adda latta dagiti kinapudno: matippay latta
Ti tinapay, matnag dagiti murkat ken regreg]

Malmesak iti iliw
Iti segga
Iti ulimek
[Umel ngamin ket daytoy a komunikasion]

Kunak man no awanen dagiti sainnek
Dagiti pannakaulila ken panagsangit
Naugotanen dagiti matak
Nga agur-uray kenka.
Apay? Apayen a kastoy……

Kinaulpit kadi iti panangbaklay iti
Bukod a krus kadagitoy a panawen
Ti panagbirok ken panaguray……

Kayatko a denngen
Ti uni dagiti kundidit
Iti man sidiran ti kabakiran
Wenno iti arubayan ti sibibiag a Pikkan
Dita laud ti kalapawko a pinan-aw ken taleb.
Awanen ti saem
Naukritan a barukong
Imarisak man daytoy a malem
Iti lumnek nga init
Iladawak ti sardam iti maysa manen
A pannakaimbirna nga umaddang.

Kasla agburayok ti essem
Ken tarigagay
Lumabas manen ti rabii
Nga awan dagiti nabiag a darepdep
Awanen ti banglo ti sabong
Iti atag ti rabii
Iti sabali a panagauray.

Siak daytoy
Iti linabag ti daniw
Bay-am a mabukelak
Iti dayyeng dagiti agaw-awir
Kadagiti simmangbay
A saringit daytoy a kaputotan.

Suksukogek latta man ti pakabuklak
Magnaak kadagiti igid ti dalan
Bareng no adda agur-uray a mangawat kaniak
Iti kinasiak, ta dagiti salemsem ti sardam
Ken nalnaawan a kaltaang
Masapulko met ti imeng ti ayat.

Ur-urayek tunggal darikmat iti panagkayabkab
Ti kayumanggi wenno puraw a kalapati
Ngatuen dagiti sinilong, panawen man iti panagtalon
Wenno panagani, ta dagiti apit ken binettek
Mailaemda iti sarusar, bugas ti biag
Daytoy gupit ket dagiti kalapati
Uray dagiti sallapingaw, urayekto manen
Nga agampayagda, sadanto nakaam-amo nga agdisso
Iti abagak, iti abagam a nakaammal
Ti sabong ni ayat
Kadagitoy a binatog daytoy a daniw.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
