PGIN-CMO
The
provincial government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN)
began accepting application for it Sirib scholarship program.
The implementing office is
the Ilocos Norte Youth Office (INYO).
The early opening of the
application is for the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) to have a
ready list of scholars in time for the opening of classes in August.
INYO, formerly known as the
Sirib Youth Office (SYO), offers three different scholarships: the Sirib
Academic, Sirib Young Leaders, and Sirib Community Leaders scholarships.
While the latter provides a
fixed stipend every semester for beneficiaries; the former two require a higher
maintaining grade average of 2.25 and provide a monthly stipend whilst covering
tuition fee, transportation allowance, daily expenses, and board and lodging,
if necessary.
Aside from maintaining a
grade average, chosen scholars will be required to serve 50 hours of community
service per semester in order to inculcate in them the spirit of bayanihan and
involvement. Many become active members of the Sirib Ilokano Kabataan
Association (SIKA), a youth volunteer organization that assists PGIN in the
delivering its services.
PGIN so far has shouldered
over 3,000 college scholarships, aiming to empower the youth and human capital
of Ilocos Norte.
