Batac City holds job fair

BATAC CITY—Hundreds of local and overseas job opportunities were up for grabs in Batac City job fair held November 12, 2019 at the Imelda Cultural Center.

Leonavella Dadiz-Duldulao, of the Department of Labor and Employment said the faire was open to all interested individuals who are seeking their dream job.

“We encouraged all job seekers to apply and have the chance to get hired on the spot,” said Ms. Dadiz.

Dubbed as, “Pabilgen ni Bataqueño Para iti Sapasap a Progreso (Empowering Bataqueño for Inclusive Growth)”, the whole-day job fair was a public and private partnership program hosted by the city government of Batac led by Mayor Albert Chua.

Aside from the DOLE, other national government agencies such as the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Social Security System, PhilHealth, Civil Service Commission, Department of Trade and Industry and Technical Education Services and Skills Development Authority will be providing one-stop shop services at the venue from 9:00AM to 4:00PM.

“This is in support to the program on job generation and skills registration of the government,” said Batac Vice Mayor Windell Chua as he noted the activity will also provide an avenue for local residents to find an easier and faster employment facilitation services.

With the opening of new commercial establishments, expansion of malls and call centers in the province, thousands of Ilocanos are already considering to work in the province.

In fact, the latest unemployment rate in Ilocos Norte continues to fall, with the latest statistic putting at 4%, making the province the “least poor province in Ilocos region”.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops.
