Vintar donates camera visualizers for students

Vintar, Ilocos Norte—Intermediate students in this town no longer need to share books during classroom discussions as they enjoy watching high quality video and photos flashed on screen while their teachers discuss the presentation.

For a teacher like Flordeliza Domingo of this town, she said they feel so lucky to enjoy the benefits of a 21^st century school as the local government unit of Vintar is giving priority to the needs of their students.

Sourced from the town’s Special Education Fund, the municipal government here allocated about PHP940,000 for the purchase of 114 cameras to all schools in this first-class municipality.

The cameras, AverVision U50 5.0 megapixel features an auto focus lens up to 25-30 FPS live video capture, which students and teacher can use to project materials such as textbooks and other visual aid. It can also shoot clear pictures and videos.

“We are thankful to the local government unit of Vintar led by our Mayor Larissa C. Foronda for purchasing the equipment. With this, the teaching-learning process gets more interesting in Vintar schools,” said Ms. Domingo citing the cameras were distributed to 39 schools, 58 units to school in Vintar 1 and 56 units in schools in Vintar II.

For her part, Mrs. Foronda hopes the camera will serve as an important tool for teachers in improving and enhancing their lessons for better teaching and learning.

“This is a great help to teachers aligned with the five-point agenda of the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Joann A. Corpuz, which is escalating ICT integration,” Leonilo A. Reginaldo, former public schools district supervisor said.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
