Marcos, Ilocos Norte—The municipal government here inaugurated a 13-room modern and spacious isolation facility at Brgy.  Lydia, in this town.

Worth PHP6 million and sourced from the government’s “Bayanihan fund” with a counterpart from the municipal government’s development fund, Marcos mayor Antonio Mariano said they will use the newly-constructed multi-purpose building as a quarantine site for returning residents.

During a simple inauguration ceremony attended by provincial and municipal officials, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc lauded Marcos town officials led by Mr. Mariano for taking a proactive role in the construction of a multi-functional facility which can be used by its residents in times of emergency.

Equipped with beddings, personal toilet with built-in cabinet, table and chairs, the isolation facility is now ready to host returning residents.

During the inauguration, Mr. Mariano said that since there are no returning residents yet that will be hosted in the said facility, front liners who are serving the municipality may stay there for free.

Recently, however, Marcos has recorded two active COVID-19 cases.

To keep up with the surge of returning residents, the governor appealed to the different local government units to have their own quarantine facilities to contain the further spread of COVID-19.

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
