Batac council holds inaugural session; legislative agenda presented

City of Batac—Newly elected Batac Vice Mayor and council presiding officer Albert D. Chua led the inaugural session of the new set of members of the 7th Sangguniang Panlungsod on June 7, 2025.

Before the session formally started, Chua delivered his inaugural speech, focusing in the realization of the city’s goal thru team work and joint efforts by enacting ordinances and crafting resolutions that will propel Batac towards a brighter future.

Chua looked forward in collaborating with the city councilors’ expertise in addressing challenges and opportunities that may come.

“Let us embark this new journey with a shared vision for a better Batac and may our collective efforts and collaborative partnerships with the executive department headed by [Batac] Mayor Markee Chua bring pride, progress and prosperity to our city and out people,” Chua said.

Chua likewise presented his legislative agenda in his first term as vice mayor of Batac and these are:

Agricultural development. Enact legislation to continue supporting farmers with essential resources like water pumps, financial assistance and upgrade livestock. Likewise, advocate ordinances that continuously improve irrigation systems, farm-to-market roads and other critical infrastructures. 

Social welfare and poverty alleviation. Intensify the pro-poor program to reach more indigent households in providing electrical connections and other essential services. Also strengthen the Crisis Assistance to Respond Emergency Situation (CARES) Program, the city’s local version in the Assistance in Crisis Situation (AICS) to provide timely financial assistance to those affected by natural disasters or other crisis.

Education and community development. Expansion of the city’s scholarship program and consistently initiate measures to provide educational materials for learners and students. Also to encourage community-based projects that promote social cohesion, cultural development and environmental conservation.

Healthcare and medical services. Continue to support the medical trust fund at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center to improve healthcare services for Batac residents. Also to advocate ordinances that promote public health, disease prevention and access to quality medical care.

Creative industry and economic development. Build on the success of the “Lunsod Lunsad” projects, which empowers local creatives through comprehensive training programs. Also propose legislations to support local business, entrepreneurship and attract investments to Batac.

Disaster preparedness and response. Strengthen the city’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities though ordinances that promote proactive measures and effective emergency response.

Free dormitories eyed for Nueva Era students in LC, Batac
