AS THE CHRISTMAS season starts, Laoag City acting police chief P/Supt. Jeffrey Gorospe said the police are now in full alert.

Gorospe said that based on records, this is also the season for shop lifting, pick pocketing, drug peddling and other illegal activities.

In view of this, Gorospe asked all police personnel in the city to be more active and alert this December.

He also disclosed their present study on the proper rerouting and parking areas of vehicles for the public’s safety and information.

He added that although there had been rerouting scheme at the same time last year, this still needs to be polished to avoid any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, Gorospe also announced that an augmentation force of 16 police officers from the Philippine National Police Regional Public Safety Battalion will be arriving soon.

He added further that they will also be coordinating with the City Tourism Office as to the putting up of tourism centers along the city proper to assist visitors who would spend Christmas here.

Gorospe also pointed out that the Yuletide season also brings a lot of vehicles into the city. He then advised local vehicle owners to park their vehicles in their areas of residences so these would not be vandalized by a still unidentified group.

Earlier, an incident transpired at Barangays 20 and 27 wherein vehicles parked along the streets were painted by the still unidentified suspects.

The Laoag police is still conducting an investigation to identify the suspects and their motives.

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
