Paoay, Ilocos Norte—The Ilocos Norte provincial Government finally
opened on May 1 another tourism infrastructure support facility known as
the Paseo de Paoay, a world-class multi-purpose commercial building which can
be rented by interested business partners to boost the
growing tourism industry here.
The two-storey Paseo de Paoay
designed by Palafox Associates, which has been tapped by the Ilocos Norte
government under the administration of Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda “Imee” R.
Marcos to develop the Metro Ilocos Norte Tourism Master Plan is now open for
business offering attractive investment package for investors.
Local business groups mostly
composed of local restaurant owners from Laoag City are now occupying some
stalls at the first floor with a minimum rental of P150 per square meter. The
Paseo de Paoay project began two years ago.
Other Ilocano products such
as souvenir items, accessories and abel
(hand woven cloth) will also be displayed at the new Paseo de Paoay in an
effort to boost the livelihood of small-time producers and entrepreneurs here.
“This is exciting because we
are having war of restaurants,” said Ms. Marcos in an interview after the
launching.
According to the governor,
her administration aims to establish a plaza around the picturesque St.
Augustine church of Paoay where livelihood can be undertaken while tourists can
roam around and experience the best Ilocos Norte can offer.
As the Metro Ilocos Norte
Tourism Master plan unfolds, investors continue to show interest in putting up
businesses in the province.
The governor reiterated that
one way of attracting investors is to create a platform for a pro-investment
government. She said that the province will establish an image where
multinationals can come to conduct business—a critical shortcut in allowing the
province’s economy to move quickly onto the path of globalization.
