DepEd staff join GAD, stress management seminars

Batac City—Senior education program specialist Jocelyn Aribuabo announced that 38 personnel from the education division here attended the recent 2016 gender and development cum team0building activity in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

Ms. Aribuabo explained that the activity aimed to develop and improve interpersonal relationship among schools’ division personnel. It also focused on enhancing their ability in addressing work environment issues and conflicts. She added that the activity also worked on increasing awareness on gender-related work ethics. The team-building, meanwhile, attempted to harness team functionality through emotional and spiritual self-reflection.

Aside from this, 96 personnel also attended the stress management and wellness program held at the Plaza del Norte.

Mirasol Mangasep, education division nurse said the activity aimed to introduce yoga as alternative healthy lifestyle and a natural remedy for health problems. She added that the program also educated participants on the holistic approach to attain optimum physical and mental health; and to understand the health, science and medical benefit of yoga practices. Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops.
