Ilocos Norte set to host 2018 Milo Marathon nat’l finals

Laoag City—The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through the Ilocos Norte Sports and Development Council (INSPDC) has begun preparations for the 42nd Milo Marathon-National Finals, which will take place in Laoag City on December 9, 2018.

Sports consultant Faivo Bartolome said the province is continuously preparing to ensure the smooth flow of the said event.

Nakahanda na ang rota para sa darating na marathon. Ang dapat na lang napagtuunan ng pansin ay kung paano yung magagawang coordination,” he stated.

A total of 12,000 visitors are expected to come for the marathon’s national finals. With this, the INSDPC are coordinating with local hotels to ensure that there is enough accommodation for the expected participants.

Mr. Bartolome remains hopeful for a successful and flawless national final as the province had already hosted for a leg of the Milo marathon last year.

“Our province competed with many cities just to hold this kind of event. Luckily, we were given the privilege. Naranasan na nating mag-host and they appreciate naman kung paano tayo nag-organize noon. For sure, we can do it again. Kaya nating mag-host ulit,” he added.

The Milo Marathon is considered as the biggest, grandest, and most prestigious running event in the country. It serves as an avenue for local runners to be scouted, discovered, and chosen to represent the country internationally. (Jesslyn Keith Valite)

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
