Ilocos Norte is known for several food products sold even abroad. To fully ensure
its safety, DOST Ilocos Norte conducted a training on the current Good
Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) with emphasis on food safety
for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on
April 24-25, 2014, at the SALINGED Biodiversity Conservation Learning
Center and Leisure Park, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Batac City.
A total of 25 participants
from five food firms from Ilocos Norte: Mabaleng Food Processors, Padre’s Meat
Shop, Testman Enterprises, Winstar Farms and Petrina’s Pastries and Delicacies,
joined the training.
The resource persons, Mr.
Decth1180 P. Libunao and Mr. Hero D. Galamgam from DOST Regional Office 1 and Engr.
Pablo Sandoval, a retired Dept. of Health personnel, shared with the
participants the practices required from SMEs to
enable them to conform with the guidelines recommended by a regulatory agency
providing authorization and license to manufacture and sale of food products.
“It was a fruitful experience
and a delight for the participants to have such speakers like them, I was
expecting the seminar to be boring, but at the contrary I didn’t even notice
that I am actually enjoying the lectures and the workshops,” participant Cynthia
Agustin said.
Participants later said they were
enlightened and their knowledge was widened on the preparation of healthy food
for safer consumption and a marketable product that is not only nationally
acclaimed delicious but also certified safe and with quality at its best.
