Laoag CITY has
recognized its best barangays and the outstanding Laoagueños for 2013.
The best barangays in the urban and rural categories
for the 2013 Cleanest, Greenest and Most Productive Barangays; Best Performing
Barangay Peace and Order Committee; Best Lupong Tagapamayapa and the Most Child
Friendly Barangays were awarded during the ABC night held February 21 at Aurora
Park.
Community affairs officer Mylene Pascual named
Brgy. 21 (San Pedro) as the cleanest, greenest and most productive barangay
under the urban category. Runners up were Brgys. 23 and 13 tied for second place
and another tie for third for Brgys. 20 and 14. The other finalists were Brgys.
18, 24, 3, 9, 10, 16, 2, 4, 12, 7-B and 17.
Barangay 54-B (Camangaan) won the top prize
for second time in the rural category with Brgys. 57 and 43 tied for second
place and Brgys. 50 and 53 also tied for third. The other finalists were 55-C,
60-B, 45, 51-A, 62-A, 48-A, 48-B, 41, 47, 55-B, 30-B and 59-B.
The top three placers received checks of
P75,000, P50,000 and P30,000 respectively while the finalists took home P5,000.
Sustainability awards were given to Brgy. 28
(urban) and 36 and 44 (rural). Barangay 28 received a P50,000 prize while Brgys.
36 and 44 received P25,000 each.
The best performing barangay peace and
order committees are Brgys. 6, 20 and 28 in the urban category and 10 finalists
while Brgys. 62-A, 54-B and 48-A are the top three in the rural category. The
winners received cash prizes of P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000, respectively and while
the other finalists were P5,000 each.
Laoag interior and local government officer-in-charge
Lavin Basilio also announced the winners for the Best Lupong Tagapamayapa
awards and they are Barangays 1, 15 and 48-A;they received cash prizes of
P20,000, P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. The other finalists are Brgys. 3,
4, 11 and 51-B who all received P5,000 each.
The city social welfare and development
office also announced the Most Child-Friendly Barangays: Brgys. 1, 23 and 20
for the urban category and Brgys. 51-A, 45 and 44 for the rural category. The top
three winners received P10,000, P5,000 and P3,000, respectively.
Laoag Liga ng mga Barangay President Mary
Michelle Louise “Mikee” V. Fariñas congratulated all the winners for actively
participating in the programs and activities of the barangays set forth by the
city government where they exerted their efforts for the improvement of their
respective barangays.
As the new Laoag Liga president, she said
she is challenged by the many initiatives that were introduced in the
competitions and she is hoping she could measure up to the expectations of her
fellow barangay chairpersons.
She added that the improvements of the
barangays were truly remarkable, the committees on peace and order are now more
functional, the lupong tagapamayapa became more responsive and the barangay
councils for the protection of children has proven to be more efficient.
Adding all this, Fariñas said this will
make Laoag City as the most outstanding local government unit followed with the
good governance in the barangays.
Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas also congratulated
all winners.
Meanwhile, the Laoag City also announced
this year’s Most Outstanding Laoagueños in a separate event that featured
Commission on Elections chairperson Atty. Sixto Brillantes as guest of honor
and speaker held at the city auditorium on February 22, 2014.
The awardees with their field of interests
were PC/Supt. Richard Albano (Law Enforcement); Julie J. Daquioag (Local
Government Administration); Dr. Lori Marseli L. De Castro (Higher Education);
Dr. Francis Miguel Domingo (Medicine-Cardiology); Noralyn H. Espejo (Court
Administrative Services); Judge Virgilio V. Macaraig (Law); Severino V. Pablo
(Iloco Literature); Prof. Eric P. Paligat (Young Educator); Araceli C. Pastor
(Basic Education) and Atty. Lutgarda C. Baquiran-Peralta (Corporate Law and
Banking).
