PGIN eyes offering senior HS scholarships

Laoag City —Senior Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc said that processes are underway for the Ilocos Norte provincial government (PGIN) to offer a scholarship for senior high school. “It’s a basic scholarship for low-income and indigenous students,” he shared, “ Wala namang limitation sa strand, but of course there are preferred or prioritized strands kagaya ng Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), and Technical-Vocational and Livelihood (TVL).” According to his office, they expect the approval of the measure by August. INEC completes 44th AGMA series

Ilocos Norte dad reminds dorm, boardinghouse operators of regulatory ordinance

Manotoc reminded the public of Provincial Ordinance No. 017-2017, which regulates the operation of boardinghouses or dormitories in Ilocos Norte, with corresponding penalties for violations. “ May mga nagsabi kasi na some of the dorms are unsafe, so ini -offer namin ‘to . The ordinance ensures na yung mga dorm ay safe and livable. There’s a standard,” said Mr. Manotoc. PGIN strengthens emergency hotline

Laoag City —With Executive Order (E.O) No. 56, series of 2018, dated May 25, 2018, the provincial government of Ilocos Norte strengthened its existing emergency hotline services by making all calls to it free of charge. Dubbed the Ilocos Norte Provincial Incident Response Management (PIRM) 911, PGIN launched it in December 2016 as a centralized hotline ensuring rapid response to accidents and other emergency situations through immediate coordination with the Ilocos Norte Provincial Police Office (INPPO) and other public safety agencies including the Bureau of Fire Protection and provincial hospitals. PIRM 911 operates 24/7 with four landline and mobile phone numbers:   077-600-0948, 077-772-1772, 0999-999-7707, and 0917-109-9911. Trained personnel stationed at the Provincial Capitol handles all calls. PGIN begins search for ‘next Teofilo Yldefonso’

(PGIN photo) Laoag City —With an eye out for discovering and developing the next Teofilo Yldefonso, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) plans to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School in Muntinlupa City to open a new swimming school at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium here. The MOA is primarily the PGIN’s bid to improve athletic development in the province. Mr. Yldefonso was the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win an Olympic medal. He was born in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, in 1903, and went on to win two bronze medals at the 1928 and 1932 Olympic Games. He introduced the modern breaststroke and garnered a total of 144 medals from 1921-1937. He died in 1942, during World War II. Ilocos runners promote peace, wellness

Juan, Laoag City on early morning of June 23, 2018 as they ran along the major streets here promoting peace and wellness. Now on its fourth year, the “Run for Peace 2018” continues to attract a community of peace and wellness advocates mostly from Laoag and the different towns of Ilocos Norte. Aside from keeping you fit and feeling younger every time you run the distance, a Laoag-based lady marathoner Fanny Miguel, 27 said, “It gives you a different feeling and a sense of accomplishment.
