Ilocos Sur governor stands with China on COVID-19

Amidst the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia, Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis V. Singson expressed through the Chinese Consulate in Laoag to Hubei Province that, they are with Hubei Province in this difficult time. Earlier, the provinces of Ilocos Sur and Hubei entered into a sisterhood agreement where they promised to promote mutual understanding and friendship with each other and to actively carry out exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Now that Hubei Province is facing the challenge of the novel coronavirus, the province of Ilocos Sur headed by Governor Singson, quickly showed their support and sympathy for their sister province. Adriano Staff Reporter LAOAG CITY— The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the local police have destroyed over PHP4 million worth of marijuana plants uprooted in the mountainous areas of Kibungan in Benguet and Sugpon in Ilocos Sur in a three-day operation. Lt. Jerry Arazabal, Sugpon police chief confirmed this as he reported they have uprooted more or less 17,550 fully-grown marijuana plants and recovered at least 7 kilos of dried marijuana stalks in different plantation sites located in the borders of Sitio Culiang, Tacadang, Kibungan and in the mountains of Wasan and Bila, Sitio Sawangan, Barangay Danac in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur. OWWA gives calamity assistance to members in Ilocos Norte, Sur

(OWWA ) San Fernando City, La Union—After typhoon Mangkhut [Ompong] hit Ilocos Region last month, the Overseas Worker Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office I (OWWA RWOI) gave Calamity Assistance to OFW-OWWA members and their qualified dependents who were severely affected by the typhoon. OWWA, through its Welfare Assistance Program (WAP), gave assistance amounting to PHP3,000 for active OWWA members and PHP1,500 for inactive members. Since the whole region was placed under a state of calamity during the typhoon, OWWA RWOI together with the local government of each provinces has to identify the top municipalities and cities that were hardly hit by the typhoon thus giving priority with the calamity assistance. Egg business sustains livelihood of poor Ilocos Sur families

Adriano Staff reporter Santiago , Ilocos Sur—Some residents living in a poor village in Dan-ar, Santiago, Ilocos Sur had always wanted to break away from poverty—until an opportunity knocks on their door sooner than expected. Under the Sustainable Livelihood Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office, the 23 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries of Dan-ar organized themselves into an organization as they underwent a skills training on chicken egg production. Carpenters, farmers and housewives populate the association. One year later, the egg farming facility of Dan-ar Poultry Sustainable Livelihood Program Association (SLPA) is now supplying quality eggs for the whole village consumption. Every day, the poultry can produce 4-10 trays of eggs. They sell them at PHP140.00 to PHP170.00 per tray depending on the eggs’ size.
