SM calls for hiring Ilokano workforce at new mall

Laoag City —SM Supermalls, in partnership with the provincial government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN)-Public Employment Services Office, the Dept. of Labor and Employment, and Jobstreet by Seek conducted a job fair titled, “Trabaho para sa Super Pinoys” at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Laoag City, on June 25. In preparation of the upcoming opening of the new SM Laoag City, the said job fair offered over 600 employment opportunities. It served as a platform for the participants to engage with industry professionals, and to explore a wide range of positions, from entry-level roles to professional careers, offering options for those looking to enter or re-enter the workforce. PGIN adds more health practitioners

Laoag City —The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) has intensified the hiring of additional medical practitioners to augment the province’s health workforce.   Fe P. Siazon, provincial human resource management officer, disclosed that the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital (GRBASMH) will be opening four vacancies for Nurse II, another four for Nurse I, and several casual and job order positions for the provincial hospital. “For our district hospitals, we are waiting for the final list of job vacancies. Maybe next week, we can publish and eventually fill the positions,” Ms. Siazon added. Meanwhile, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph M. According to Angel Lao, former president of the Ilocos Norte Travel and Tours Association and a travel agency owner, she said Ilocos residents who are still looking for employment or those who wish to have an alternative source of income may consider attending a short term course on tour guiding seminar to join the exciting world of growing tourism industry in the region. Laoag dad urges hiring of PWDs, seniors in city

In an approved Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution which he sponsored, Mr. Lao said he based the measure in pursuant to Republic Act A No. 9994, Section 5 (a) which states, “Senior Citizens who have the capacity and desire to work, or, be re-employed, shall be provided information and matching services to enable to be productive members of society”. He also noted Section 5 of RA No. 7277 which also provides, “No disable person shall be denied access opportunities for suitable employment”. MMSU employees get additional incentive

Andres Contributor CITY of BATAC —More than 1,000 employees of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) are expected to enjoy a festive Christmas holiday with granting of the PHP25,000 collective negotiation agreement (CNA) incentive, or Yuletide bonus this year. Dr. Oscar M. Agpaoa, director of the university’s Financial Management Office disclosed that the university had reserved a budget of more than PHP21 million for the payment of the employees’ CNA incentive. "MMSU personnel who were entitled to the CNA incentive are those regular, casual, and contractual employees," Dr. Agpaoa said. Personnel appointed between July and September 2019 were entitled to a pro-rated CNA, while those who have retired from the service before September 30, 2019 shall also be authorized a pro-rated share. The CNA incentive is given based on the savings of the university from expenses in electricity, travel, communication outlays, repairs and maintenance

PGIN reopens “Saguip Nars”

Laoag City —As fulfillment of Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc’s campaign promise “to improve, to equip, and to better staff” district hospitals and health units in the province, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) reopens the application for the first batch of “Saguip Nars” Program starting on December 2, until December 13, 2019. “Saguip Nars” was introduced early in 2014 with the objective of providing work experience to new Ilokano registered nurses who lack professional clinical experience. For Sharina Mae Verdadero, a student of Bachelor of Science in English Language in the City of Batac, she said the program is worth trying not just to earn for money but also to gain more experience. Ilocos Norte Korean school now accepts enrollees

Atuan, manager of the Public Employment Service Office under the provincial government announced that enrollment is now on-going for the short-term training course which could last for more or less 13 days. For the benefit of interested applicants who want to work in South Korea, the KRT International Training Center Inc. is reaching out to all Ilocanos in the province to provide Korean language training to them without going out of their comfort zone. Laoag City —As part of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte’s (PGIN) bid to continue boosting employment opportunities for Ilocanos, the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO) conducted a career orientation in partnership with K.R.T International Training Center Inc. (K.R.T-ITCI) on May 29, 2019 at the Provincial Capitol cafeteria. Rejected Laoag City 2019 budget impacts planned salary hike for SPES

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Laoag City —The planned salary increase for the 300 Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES)slots in Laoag was also impacted by the rejected 2019 annual budget. The 2019 annual budget was disapproved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod in January this year and has not been tackled since until the 90-day period lapsed. City Budget Office (CBO) record shows that the allocated budget for SPES last year was PHP3,380,190; and fir this year, PHP3,559,580, or an increase of PHP179,390 was allocated. The increase in allocation would have translated to higher SPES salaries but with the disapproval of the annual budget, the increase was also shelved. The salaries for SPES was based on the existing entry level position of the city government similar to contract of service (COS), which has a rate of PHP387.73 per day. PESO: K-12 readiness, public career counseling yields 93% boost in on-the-spot hires

Producing job-ready graduates through industry-academe joint efforts. Laoag City —Out of 2,600 job fair applicants in 2018, a total of 1,178 were successfully hired on-the-spot, records from the Ilocos Norte Public Employment Services Office (PESO) showed. In 2017, only 256 applicants out of 1,090 (23.49%) were hired immediately during job fairs. A 93% increase in applicants instantly hired was seen in 2018. These are based on figures from the different job-matching activities held simultaneously during the Bicentennial Celebration in February and the Marcos Fiesta in September, as well as the annual Summer Job Fair, Millennial Job Fair, which caters to senior high school graduates, and the Year-End Job Fair.
