BPO company offers free training for nurses

Adriano Staff reporter Laoag City —Another business processing outsourcing (BPO) company is offering free training, this time, for nurses who may be interested to shift careers but still in a related field. Nicole Rudio, provincial manager of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) said Monday the free training is open to all graduates of nursing who would like to apply in BPO companies. According to Ms. Rudio, the four-week training to be slated this August is a great opportunity for nurses to advance their career in clinical research and pharmacovigilance. For interested applicants, Ms. Rudio said the PESO located at east wing of the Provincial Capitol building is accepting applicants for their registration and interview. Flexibility is one thing that rice can boast of as a living organism, PhilRice Executive Director Eufemio T. Rasco Jr. said. This he noted in the midst of abnormal weather challenges that confront rice production. In a statement Rasco noted the ability of rice to withstand a wide range of ecosystems, given appropriate technologies and environments. “Rice can actually survive disasters. We just need more R&D to continue to improve our outputs and bring technologies to farmer. Matching these technologies to suitable environments is the key,” Mr. Rasco said. Ilocos Norte board moves to institutionalize organic farming

Adriano Staff Reporter LAOAG CITY—Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) in this province is moving to institutionalize the practice of organic agriculture in the province to ensure healthy foods and cope with the international organic agriculture movement. A draft provincial ordinance no. 2014-06-025 was passed for second reading at the SP session hall to encourage all farmers in the province to adopt a sustainable habit of organic farming which will eventually pay off in the long run. NCCA urges Ilocos Norte LGUs to protect local heritage sites

Adriano Staff reporter Laoag City —The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is urging all local government units (LGUs) and other concerned stakeholders to protect local heritage sites in Ilocos Norte. NCCA Sub commission on Cultural Heritage and Technical Assistance Program representatives were in Laoag City to conduct workshop on heritage law and basic conservation methods while sending other technical experts composed of structural engineers to assess various old churches in need of immediate repair and rehabilitation. Attended by parish priests, policy makers, tourism officers and engineering and architecture instructors, the workshop held at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall at the Provincial Capitol aims to familiarize participants specifically on what LGUs can do to protect local heritage. NTA holds livelihood trainings in tobacco-growing provinces

Adriano Staff reporter Laoag City —The National Tobacco Administration’s (NTA) Farm Technology and Services Department (FTSD)  is holding various livelihood trainings for women  and children of tobacco-growing families in the Ilocos region. For the whole month of August, a series of trainings on bread, cake and pastry making and herbal tea making is being conducted to interested participants at the NTA AgriPinoy Tobacco Farmers Food Processing Plant and Trading Center in Nanguneg East, Narvacan in Ilocos Sur. The first batch of trainees for bread, cake and pastry making opened   on August 5 with three more batches to follow on August 7-8,   August 26-27   and August 28-29 . On the other hand, another four batches with at least 30 participants per batch will also undergo training on herbal tea making on August 12, 13, 14 and 15. In the previous months of June and July, training facilitators from the NTA also conducted trainings on organic fertilizer
