Batac dad proposes building of new cemetery, subdivision

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Batac City —Saying that these are the people’s demand here, Batac councilor Bernardo K. Marders proposed the establishment of a new cemetery with crematory facilities, and housing subdivision here. As such, two draft ordinances intended for both the living and dead were presented for first reading during the council’s regular session. Mr. Marders, committee on labor, employment and civil services, disclosed that the current Batac cemetery is already congested and needs an expansion; or the city government can build a new cemetery, He also divulged that, at present, only a privately owned cemetery has free spaces. Other cemeteries here, he added, are either full or close to full capacity. He said his proposal would forestall whatever problems that may arise in the future regarding this issue. Batac to focus more on environment

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Batac City —Mayor Albert D.  Chua disclosed that their executive-legislative agenda (ELA) next year will focus more on health, education, but most especially on environment. Mr. Chua stressed that environment encompasses reforestation, dredging, irrigation, waste management, water treatment, and garbage collection among others. He revealed that they are now on the planning stage on the conversion of the current dumpsite into a sanitary landfill. But while they are still on this stage, the mayor said they are doing their best about garbage collection. He said they are now strictly implementing garbage segregation with a schedule on what type will be picked up. With this, Mr. Chua asked barangay officials here to help in the implementation of waste segregation. He stressed that this should start in all officials’ households. As the new administration begins, Batac’s city center is undergoing a grand facelift. A rotunda is being constructed between the City Hall and the Immaculate Conception Church. By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Laoag City —After a series of runner-up finishes, this city’s Brgy. 1 finally topped the national search for the best Lupong Tagapamayapa for 2015. The Dept. of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) formally relayed this information to DILG regional director Julie Daquioag in a letter dated August 30, 2016. The letter informed that Brgy. 1 (San Lorenzo) is the national winner in the 2015 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Awards (LTIA). Relative to this, the BLGS regional officer-in-charge Manuel Gotis requested the barangay’s treasurer or any authorized representative to personally receive the cash prize amounting to P300,000. Pambid PGIN-CMO Batac City —As the whole Ilocandia celebrated Marcos Day on September 11, 2016, the Ilocos Norte government also restarted its Capitol Express at the public market here. Capitol Express, which brings frontline services to the grassroots, was last held a month ago. The temporary halt was to give way for the preparation for some provincial government projects. Hundreds of residents here were delighted with the program’s return; the program, they said, brings the Capitol to them hence they no longer need to travel to the capital city.
