Laoag City—Supertyphoon
“Ragasa”, locally known as “Nando”, left a trail of destruction in Laoag City after
it lashed the city from September 22 to 23, 2025.
Reports showed that significant damages to infrastructure and
agriculture in the city’s barangays affected were reported and several
residents were evacuated due to threats of storm surges and landslides.
As of September 23, 2025, at 5:00 pm, reports indicated that damages
on infrastructure has reached up to PHP37.8 million, which comprised PHP12.3
million for public buildings, and PHP25.5 million for roads and bridges.
As to agri-infrastructure damages and losses, reports showed PHP49,432,667.50
damages which are broken down as: rice and corn damages in the amount of PHP48,778,837.50;
high value crops in the amount of PHP110,330.00;
fisheries in the amount of PHP140,000.00 and agri-infrastructure in the amount
of PHP110,330.00; and farm machineries and equipment in the amount of PHP140,000.
Reports likewise showed that 31 barangays in the city were affected
with 244 families affected; 821 persons affected; 198 families displaced inside
evacuation centers; 618 persons displaced inside evacuation centers; 12
families displaced outside evacuation centers; 48 persons displaced outside
evacuation centers; 37 houses partially damaged; 4 houses totally damaged; 4
families flooded and 199 families served.
Relative to this, Laoag Mayor James Bryan Acid, the City Disaster
Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRC) personnel, immediately
distributed food packs to the affected barangays and families.
Classes in all levels both in public and private schools, as well as
work in government offices, were cancelled on September 23 and 24, 2025 as TCWS
reached signal No. 4 in the city.
The city government of Laoag likewise offered free charging of
cellphones and other gadgets with the power interruption.
