The Sangguniang Panlungsod here passed a resolution authorizing Batac mayor Albert D. Chua to sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR). The MOA requests the BAR to research and develop the project dubbed “Technology Adoption and Commercialization of Hawaiian Ginger and Turmeric (Curcuma longa) in the city of Batac”. Batac councilor Jeremiah Jawaharlal Nalupta, the resolution’s sponsor, said the project will be led by BAR. The BAR, a Dept. of Agriculture-attached agency, is tasked to “coordinate, plan, monitor, evaluate, integrate, manage and/or initiate fund sourcing. Pambid PGIN-CMO Laoag City —Out of the 630 applicants who participated in the Marcos Fiesta Job Fair held at Robinsons Activity Area in San Nicolas town on September 9, 2016, 142 Ilocanos were hired-on-the-spot. This is equivalent to 23% of the total applicants, according to Provincial Employment and Services Officer Lizette Bitancor.  According to Leonabella Duldulao of the Department of Labor and Employment office in Ilocos Norte, the activity was considered a success, because it surpassed the 15% requirement of having hired on the spots out of the total number of applicants. Ms. Duldulao also said that more than half of the applicants were qualified for various positions based from the assessment of employers. “Through this job fair, several were already given jobs. Lasting up to November 11, 2016 , the Laoag City Traffic Division posted a public advisory that the northbound lane will be closed from   7:00 pm to 6:00 am   to allow laborers to work even at night time. Then from   November 12 to December 28   with the same time frame, the southbound lane will also be closed in connection with the much needed repair and rehabilitation of the old bridge. The planned retrofitting activity has been set as early as August this year but due to a series of big events in the province, the Department of Public Works and Highways postponed it. Edwin Balles said. Mr. Balles is the Laoag police chief. He reported that barangays as: Brgys. 32-B, 59-B, 35, 33-A, 49-A, 31, 39, 45, 34-A, 50, 58, 49-B, 60-B, 61, 30-A, 52-B 40, 32-C, 60-A, 34B, 47, 42, 44, 51-B, 38-B, 32-A, 43 and 48-A. By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff reporter Laoag City —All Laoag City government-owned vehicles will soon be tracked anywhere anytime. This becomes possible after the city government began installing global positioning system (GPS) kits in the said vehicles. Laoag information technology officer Franz Reginal Felipe said at least 20 vehicles are already equipped with GPS. He disclosed that vehicles assigned to the engineering officer were the first ones to be tagged. He admitted that one of the main reasons for the GPS project was the issue about garbage compactors losing fuel. The drivers for said vehicles have already been probed by the disciplinary and separation board. “ Daytoy ket tapnu makita a nalaing no kasanu ken manu a litro iti gasolina iti nataray da base no manu met a kilometro tay nataray da ,” Mr. Felipe explained. He added that with the GPS, the vehicles can be located anytime, anywhere. The vehicles’ speed and direction can also be ascertained.
