Batac
City—City mayor Albert D. Chua announced the
impending rehabilitation of the road connecting this city and Sarrat town.
The project forms part of the
Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) dubbed “Rehabilitation of
Billoca-San Juan Farm-To-Market Road and 8 Bridges”.
The PRDP under the Department
of Agriculture aims to establish a modern, value-chain oriented and climate
resilient agriculture and fisheries sector.
Mr. Chua said the Batac
government has allocated PHP7,036,607.00 from the city’s 2017 annual budget as
i’s counterpart to augment the share of the Ilocos Norte provincial government,
a requirement for f the project.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod here
also earlier approved a resolution authorizing Mr. Chua, as mayor, and for and
in behalf of the city government to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA)
with the provincial government for the rehabilitation of farm-to-market roads and
six bridges within the city’s the territorial jurisdiction.
According to the mayor, funds
for the project are foreign sources and is worth PHP170 million for infrastructure
projects. He added that the DA may increase the funding up to PHP200 million as
the project also includes training programs and livelihood projects for the
barangays concerned.
He identified Brgys. Billoca,
Baoa West, Rayuray, Camandingan, Nagbacalan, Cangrunaan and Nagirangan as main
beneficiaries of the said projects.
Two of the bridges are at
Brgy. San Juan in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte.
The mayor hopes that the
12-kilometer farm-to-market project will start soon. He disclosed that the
winning bidder for project has received the notice to proceed. The project’s
groundbreaking occurred on September 8, 2017.
