Masa masid orientation in Batac City

Batac City government administrator Windell D. The Department of the Interior and Local Government in partnership with the Batac government, the Philippine National Police, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Department of Health conducted the first (MASA MASID) Orientation participated om by MASA MASID Teams (MMTs) of Brgys. Valdez, Cangrunaan, San Julian, Aglipay, Baay, Baligat, Maipalig, Payao, Naguirangan, Camangan, and Dariwdiw. The punong barangay, the Sangguniang Barangay committee on peace and order chairperson, representative from faith-based Organization, non-government organization, and other volunteer groups, NGO members of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council and Barangay Peace and Order Council compose MMTs. The orientation aims to capacitate the Masa Masid Teams on their roles in the implementation of the program particularly in the massive dissemination of information to heighten their level of awareness on criminality, illegal drugs, corruption, and other threats. Organizers also scheduled three more orientation events on October 11, 2017 for Brgys. Callaguip, Acosta, Palpalicong, Bungon, Tabug, Pimentel, Biningan, San Mateo, San Pedro, and Palongpong; October 16, 2017 for Brgys. Ablan, Nalupta, Ben-agan, Quiling Sur, Magnuang, Quiom, Camguidan, Baoa East, Baoa East, Rayuray, and Billoca; and October 17, 2017 for Brgys. Ricarte, Lacub, Barani, Quiling Norte, Colo, Mabaleng, Sumader, Parangopong, Capacuan, and Nagbacalan. The MASA MASID is a pet project of President Rodrigo Duterte which aims to promote community involvement in addressing the problems on corruption, illegal drugs, criminality, violent extremism and other threats to peace and security.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
