DepEd reshuffles Ilocos Norte education heads

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff Reporter Laoag City— The Dept. of Education, as per Order No. 16 S. of 2019, reassigned schools division superintendents in the province on Sept. 18, 2019 The said order implemented a nationwide policy on reassignments and also included regional and assistant regional directors and assistant division superintendents. With this order, Ilocos Norte schools division superintendent Vilma Eda was transferred to Laoag City vice Dr. Joel B. Lopez, who was reassigned to Batac City. Erstwhile Batac schools division superintendent Dr. Joann Corpuz, meanwhile, moved to the Ilocos Norte division post. Gov’t official cites PhilRice as premiere research institution

Dr. William Dar, acting Department of Agriculture secretary, had recognized the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) as a lead agency in research during his recent visit at the Institute’s Central Experiment Station in Science City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija. “I’ve [already said this] and I will always mention that the number 1 research institute in the country, comparing any research institute, is PhilRice. [This is not to flatter you. I know because I have worked with you],” Dar said. “I am a returnee to the department, and I’ve seen 21 years ago, how good PhilRice is. CSC-Ilocos Norte fetes civil servants on its 119th anniversary

By Dominic B. dela Cruz Staff Reporter Laoag City —The Civil Service Commission in Ilocos Norte recognized hundreds of government employees from the province during its 119 th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (CSC) celebration. The celebration, with this year’s theme “Civil Service at 119: Upholding Integrity and Building a High-Trust Society”, was held at the Laoag City Hall Auditorium on September 23, 2019. All Ilocos Norte government employees who reached 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years in service respectively received the Length of Service Awards. CSC provincial director Atty. Rex Ami said the awardees received the certificate of Length of Service. In the agency level, cash awards of PHP10,000 came with those who had 10 years of service, with an additional PHP5,000 for every five years more of service. Motorists score slow traffic flow in Laoag

By Bernardo B. Ver II Contributor Laoag City —Motorists traversing the Laoag City to San Nicolas route are complaining of the heavy traffic. The heavy traffic began with the implementation of the “no left turn” policy along the Manila North Road from this city to neighboring San Nicolas town. P/Lt. Col. Amador Quiocho, Laoag City police chief, said it was only a dry-run to study the severe traffic congestion in the area. Traffic flow is slowing down as more vehicles enter and exit this city. A bypass road was recently opened going to this city from Paoay but it has not totally solved the city’s traffic congestion problems. The Ilocos Norte provincial government, meanwhile, is now planning to add another diversion road to ease the messy flow of vehicles.
