PASUQUIN, Ilocos Norte—The Philippine Coastguard (PCG) is set to construct a ₱3 million building of in the coastal barangay of Davila here.

Pasuquin Vice Mayor Pedro Rex Aguinaldo confirmed this as he reported that the town council is set to approve the budget in the form of a donation from the Philippine Coastguard through the Department of Transportation and Communication.

Apart from the building, another 10-million is being eyed for the establishment of a lighthouse here to guide fishers while at sea.

In Ilocos Norte, the main station of the Philippine Coastguard is located in Currimao in the second district of the province. To speed up delivery of services particularly in search and rescue operations and enforcement of maritime laws, the proposed PCG station in the first district of Ilocos Norte is needed.

For the meantime, the PCG has set up a temporary station in this town to monitor the illegal fishing activities here.

Local fishers here had been complaining about the rampant poaching activities of foreign fishing vessels that have resulted in declining catch compared to previous years.

With limited resources from the PCG such as mere five-meter aluminum motor boat to go after and apprehend these foreign fishing vessels spotted approximately 20 miles from the shoreline of Pasuquin, local authorities here have sought the help of the Philippine Navy to help patrol the area.

With the construction of a new PCG station and a lighthouse, residents here hope illegal poachers will be apprehended the soonest possible time.
