Pagudpud Vice Mayor Maja Sales throws full support to Sandro Marcos' congressional bid

By Joni C. Luis (Correspondent)

Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte—"Full, solid, 100 percent.”

That is how Pagudpud Vice Mayor Matilde “Maja” H. Sales described her support for Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, who is running for the congressional seat of Ilocos Norte’s first district.

Sales, who is aiming a return as Pagudpud mayor, said she believes that Marcos, with his educational background and exposure in Congress, is “ripe and ready” to represent the district. She added that having him as congressman will be very beneficial for the district, especially if his father, presidential frontliner Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., becomes the nation’s leader.

Alam niyo naman, manipud idi, no matter what and against all odds, hindi talaga kami umaalis sa Marcos, kaya ikarigatanmi a tulungan isuna,” said Sales who intimated that her association with the younger Marcos goes way back.

Sandro himself has shared in previous media interviews that among his fondest memories growing up in Ilocos Norte were his Pagudpud vacations spent with friends.

Sales shared that she had the chance to know him from childhood since it was their resort that they frequented. The Sales family owns the Saud Beach Resort situated in the middle of what has been repeatedly listed as one of the best beaches in the world.

Sales’ return bid

If she wins, Sales says she looks forward to serving with the younger Marcos in strengthening the municipality’s economy while advancing sustainable development, “serbisyong tuluy-tuloy, walang naiiwan.” She also pledged support for intensified support for educational scholarships, job generation, health, social services, and stronger internet connectivity, which she believes are crucial to economic recovery and in securing Pagudpud’s future.

Confidence in Sandro

Sales expressed confidence that Marcos will win convincingly in Pagudpud.

She also mentioned that her father, former Tarlac solon Baldomero Henson, was also a strong supporter of the Marcoses.

Fence-straddling

However, the vice mayor expressed concern that, based on her own observation and from reports she received from people in the grassroots, some allies of incumbent Pagudpud Mayor Rafael Ralph L. Benemerito II are organizing supporters for Rep. Maria Cristina “Ria” Fariñas (Ilocos Norte, 1st district), who is running for reelection.

Sales noted that it was unlikely that Benemerito was unaware of his teammates’ political moves.

The Ilocos Times, through text messages, requested Benemerito for his comment on this matter. The mayor did not act on the request.

Sales and Benemerito are in a three-cornered fight with senior Sangguniang Bayan member Ferdinand Garvida for this town’s top executive post.
