Vintar District Hospital now open 24/7

Vintar, Ilocos Norte—Town Mayor Richard Degala formally announced that the operation of the Vintar District Hospital is now open on 24-hours staring Feb. 10, 2024.

“Napalalo iti ragsak ken yaman ko ta finally, matungpalen tay nabayagen a kalkalikaguman dagiti appo a kakailiak ditoy Vintar aglalo dagitay padak a taga Surong ta ag 24 orasen daytoy Tamdagan District Hospital tayon wennu Vintar District Hospital’en tapnu mas mapaalisto a mataming ta no adda emergency ket talaga a marigatan dagti padak a taga away a maitaray dagiti pasyente”, Degala said.

The mayor thanked the provincial government of Ilocos Norte headed by Governor Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc for prioritizing the health care in Vintar and for providing additional medical doctors, nurses and admin personnel for the hospital’s operation.

The mayor said the hospital will not only benefit the residents from those at Surong Valley but also residents who are at the northern part of the town’s river.

He said that with the on-going construction of a bridge funded by the Office of first district Congressman Sandro Marcos at Brgy. Alsem, the Vintar District Hospital will become much nearer to residents of Brgys. Alsem, Salsalamagi and Magabobo. 

Relative to this, the mayor met the hospital staff headed by Dr. Desiree Geraldine Soriano.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops.
