She added that she is also keen to know the COA investigation result. “ No kasanu kinagagar yo a maamwan iti resulta imbestigasyon appo, mas kaniyak ,” the mayor said. It has been more than two months now since the missing money was discovered. COA however has not released its investigation’s result. Another government agency, the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) has completed its own investigation. The BLGF however, will only release the result once COA releases its own investigation result. Ms. Fariñas explained that her current stance on the issue is for her not to preempt the COA investigation result. Representatives from the Laoag City Commission on Elections (Comelec) office, the Dept. of Interior and Local Government, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and a pastor from the Sarrat Baptist Church witnessed the election. The new ABC Ilocos Norte chapter officers are: Paul Baltazar of Sarrat, president; Celso Ragusante of Paoay, vice president; and Joel Tesoro, Faustino Tomas, Al Aguibay, Alexander Navarro and Reynaldo Mariano, board of directors. Fariñas’ emotional statement during the senior citizen’s program, referring to the missing P85 million from the city’s coffers. The program was part of the vice mayor’s month-long birthday celebration this August. The vice mayor served as Laoag mayor from 2004-2010. Adriano Staff reporter BURGOS, Ilocos Norte—In a coastal barangay in this town, volunteers with the help of private individuals are helping fight malnutrition for children aged 0-6 years old. Barangay Poblacion launched the “adopt-a-child” program in 2011 to help underweight children gain proper nutrition. Today, the program continues. This year, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) identified at least 12 underweight kids in the barangay; foster parents have since “adopted” these children. Every day, the children are brought to the barangay hall. There they are given their share of full nutritious lunch. Multivitamins, milk and other food supplements are also provided for them. According to Barangay Poblacion chairperson Joegie Jimenez, his fellow officials and him initiated the program by themselves in 2011. That time, he said they “adopted” one underweight child each. (Jopo Guerrero) In support of the National Greening Program (NGP), the Department of Agrarian Reform Employees Association (DAREA) recently held a tree planting activity along the Ilocos Norte-Abra Road in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte. The NGP aims to plant around 1.5 billion trees in lands of public domain such as forest lands, ancestral domains, mangrove areas, urban parks and open spaces, inactive and abandoned mine sites, river banks and streams and all other suitable public lands. Besides lessening the impact of climate change, the said program is also designed to promote food security, environmental stability and biodiversity conservation.
