Joint House panel OKs bill creating water department

A joint panel of the House of Representatives has approved a substitute bill consolidating 35 House bills seeking to create the Department of Water Resources (DWR) and Water Regulatory Commission (WRC). The Committee on Government Reorganization and Committee on Public Works and Highways both approved on November 12 the unnumbered substitute bill. The committee chairs noted the urgency and importance of the substitute measure given the issues plaguing the water supply in Metro Manila and the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte. "Our agenda is very timely due to the recent and continuing water crisis which is being experienced by the residents of Metro Manila and nearby provinces," said Rep. Ramon Guico, who represented the highways committee and co-presided the hearing with Rep. Mario Vittorio Marino, chairman of the reorganization committee. ‘Inabel’ weaving center to soon rise in Pinili

Adriano Staff Reporter LAOAG CITY—A center dedicated to preserve and strengthen the Ilokano weaving tradition will soon rise in Pinili town, home of national living treasure Magdalena Gamayo. Funded by the Ilocos Norte government with PHP4 million, Ilocos Norte Governor Matthew Joseph M. Manotoc said the project aims to boost the inabel industry in the province as well as the micro, small and medium entrepreneurs who will directly benefit from it. “We wish to put up the center to show our support to our weavers and sustain the industry in the coming years,” he said. Batac expands Centenarian Awards coverage

The Sangguniang Panlungsod here amended the centenarian awards to expand its coverage. The previous council based the said ordinance on RA 10868, or the Centenarians Act of 2016, with the Dept. of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular No. 2016-160, which provided the policies and guidelines and the implementing rules and regulations of the said act. At least two vending machines filled with aromatic coffee produced by the municipality are made accessible to whoever wants to sip coffee while waiting for their turn in front of the Municipal Treasurer’s Office.
