Ilocos Norte donates P300K for landslide victims in Itogon

LAOAG CITY—The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte is donated PHP300,000 for the victims of landslide in Itogon, Benguet.

In a special session held at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on September 27, 2018, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved Draft Provincial Resolution No. 2018-09-273 authorizing Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” R. Marcos to donate said amount as an expression of sympathy and support to the families of the victims.

SP member Da Vinci M. Crisostomo, chairperson of the committee on laws said the amount hopes to ease the burden and sufferings of the families of the victims after a landslide buried them alive at the height of typhoon Mangkhut (Ompong).

The amount will be coursed through the local government unit of Benguet.

As of this posting, authorities suspended search and retrieval operation on September 30, 2018. The death toll has reached 91 with nine still missing at Level 070 at Ucab, Itogon, Benguet.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops.
