DPWH-INED2 is second most eco-friendly in PH

San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte – The Department of Public Works and Highways-Ilocos Norte Second Engineering District (DPWH-INED2) was named 1st runner-up in the recently concluded national search for the 2018 DPWH Eco-Friendly District Engineering Office, otherwise known as the Environmental Management Program Sustainability.

DPWH Ilocos Norte 2nd engineering district Engr. Mathias L. Malenab said the competition is in line with the national government’s effort on environmental protection and conservation.

This is to recognize the exemplary compliance to the environmental programs and policies and efforts on environmental protection and conservation.

Said office was also given a special award as Best in Greening Program.

Engineering Districts of South Cotabato and Cebu City tied for the top spot.

Relative to this, Mr. Malenab thanked all his personnel for their cooperation and contributions making said office top most as eco-friendly office nationwide.

DPWH-INED2 implemented the Environmental Management Programs in terms of the 4 Ps (Policy, Promotion of Awareness, People and Practices).

It includes electricity conservation; the adherence to the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003) and maintenance and monitoring of “Bukod Basura” practice on 3R’s (Reduce at source, Reuse and Recycle); greening program; green procurement program and emergency preparedness program among the implemented strategies.

The DPWH also implements air pollution prevention trough the adherence to Clean Air Act and “no smoking” policy inside the building premises; fuel conservation and efficient utilization of energy fuel and minimizes consumption of the same and order and cleanliness in compliance with the DPWH QMS Manual, IO 9001:2008.

The national awarding was held at the DPWH Central Office, Manila on December 17, 2018 with DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar as guest of honor and speaker.
