Laoag City—Another Ilocano from the province of Ilocos Norte shone as Pinili Vice Mayor Maynard Francis Bumanglag was elected as interim national president of Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines (VMLP).

Senator Imee Marcos personally administered the oath of office of the newly elected VMLP Interim national officers headed by Bumanglag on June 5, 2025 in Manila during the second Quarter National Executive Board and Term-End Solidarity Meeting of the VMLP .

The Ilocos Times learned that the VLMP national president ran for councilor, the vice president ran for mayor in Cebu and the secretary ran for mayor in Sulu and the highest post that remained was treasurer Bumanglag.

However, Bumanglag said that despite holding the highest rank as treasurer, it not automatically elevated him as national president; instead, he said an election has transpired and he was elected as the interim national president until a regular VMLP election will be conducted early next year.

As a result, Bumanglag will be the presiding officer of the incoming 17 regional elections of VMLP in the country and two national general assemblies in the coming months.

Dakkel a pagyamanak ta uray aggapu tayo iti bassit nga ili ti intero a Pilipinas ket datayo iti napagasatan a national president ti amin a bise mayor iti pagilian tay,” Bumanglag said.

He said that a series of lined-up activities of the league are being prepared with the help of the national secretariat and one of which is the establishment or implementation of “elegis” website in cooperation with the University of the Philippines.

Bumanglag said the website purposely help all the vice mayors including all legislators that serves as the depositories of all ordinances and resolutions in the entire country.

As the new VMLP National President, Bumanglag will be conducting a monthly meetings in Manila with his fellow officials.

Records show that this set of VMLP is considered as “historical” as it is the first time to have interim officials and likewise, both the interim national president and national treasurer,  Dingras Vice Mayor Erdio Valenzuela, come from Ilocos Norte

According to Bumanglag, if given the chance to be elected as the regular national president of the VMLP, he is much willing to accept it since his fellow vice mayor’s already expressed their support to him.

Bumanglag is now on his third and final term as vice mayor in Pinili.
