Pinili, Marcos win reg’l local legislative awards

Pinili, Ilocos Norte—Besting other municipalities in the entire Region I, the local government units  of Pinili and Marcos won in the 2025 Regional Search for Local Legislative Awards (LLA), and they will automatically represent Region I in the national search.

The award is in recognition of the exemplary performance of the Sangguniang Bayan in crafting ordinances and resolutions that support the foundation of effective local governance and development and their commitment to serving their constituents with integrity and excellence.

In a letter received by Pinili Mayor Rommel T. Labasan thru Pinili Vice Mayor Maynard Francis R. Bumanglag, Department of the Interior and Local Government regional director Jonathan Paul M. Leusen Jr. congratulated the whole officialdom of Pinili for a “job well done” in the field of legislation.

The municipalities of Pinili and Marcos won the LLA 2025 Regional Champion under the 1st to 3rd class municipalities and 4th to 6th class municipalities, respectively.

Relative to this, the vice mayors, and the SB secretaries of both LGUs were invited to join the awarding ceremony in Filipiniana attire on June 21 but without a specific venue yet, as of press time.


The Ilocos Times
learned that it is the first time for an Ilocos Norte LGU to compete in the LLA National Level.

Bumanglag said the award was a “remarkable and unexpected for a small town Pinili beating the consistent awardee, the municipality of Naguilian in La Union.”

Bumanglag added that this recognition is a “testament to the commitment, teamwork, and excellence of the Sangguniang Bayan members whose dedication to good governance continue to uplift the municipality:.

The vice mayor likewise thanked the Labasan for his “support and visionary leadership with respect to the legislative body.”

The LLA aims to assess the performance of the city and municipal legislative bodies for the period of June 30, 2022 to June 30, 2025.

As the newly elected president of the Vice Mayor’s League of the Philippines (VMLP), he said that this year is “remarkable and a year to remember considering the prestigious awards Pinili has received in the province, region to national” that includes his unopposed election to the VMLP presidency. 

“Padayawen Pinili… Together we continue to make our town a beacon of excellence, unity and progress,” Bumanglag said.

The municipality of Marcos is under the leadership of Mayor Antonio V. Mariano and Vice Mayor Rhonel Allan M. Coloma.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
