Piddig shares initiatives on convergence project to Sarangani

General Santos City—The Piddig municipal government fronted by Mayor Georgina Salazar-Guillen shared their own ingenuities in a forum on good governance and convergence project the Provincial Government of Sarangani hosted on July 24, 2018.

The forum is about the “inclusive business” approach in local government that sets models and plans for private investments as part of the enduring programs of Sarangani Governor Steve Chongbian Solon.

Engineer Eddie Guillen, former Piddig mayor and now a consultant for his town, shared expertise he experienced in agribusiness, especially the remarkable convergence project of the town focusing on coffee production and how the Piddig made it as a tool for sustainable development of the town.

Mr. Guillen first discussed the major problems in an LGU: increasing poverty rate, lack of medical assistance, poor disaster response, peace and order, untapped land resources, food security and low productivity, lack of crop diversification, lack of agri-business financing, poor education system and unemployment and underemployment dilemmas.

He also talked about factors in troubleshooting and demonstrated a data on how to fix problems in accordance with government policies. The main agenda of his presentation is all about coffee production of the town that produced with various projects including farm-to-market roads, flood control projects, water impounding dams, creation of cooperative office, and tourism sites.

Mr. Guillen shared further the formula in these projects thru convergence of the different offices in the government especially on agricultural development aided by the Department of Agriculture (DA), the help of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on the National Greening Project (NGP), the Department of Works and Highways (DPWH) and so on.

Also, he added the medical assistance for the farmers and their town-mates thru “Piddig cares” that helps people, especially the needy and the aged as a tool guide in supporting and sustaining healthy individuals in town.

“We must see to it that in everything that we do in the government, we should take a look on a bigger and brighter… help our neighbors first by giving them resources to make their living more meaningful and guide them in agribusiness as a response to the government needs in a progressive and efficient public service,” said Mr. Guillen.

Gracing the occasion were the municipal and provincial officials of Sarangani represented by board member Jong-Jong Falgui, Board of Investment (BOI) assistant secretary Felicitas Agoncillo-Reyes, BOI Governor Napoleon Concepcion, BOI Director Melanie MoleƱo, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Sarangani Agribusiness Consultant Jonathan Joson.
