Manila—Pioneer compact car distributor Suzuki Philippines (SPH) closes the first half of the year with the back-to-back launch of the much-anticipated all-new Dzire and Swift.

The grand launch, held at Marriott Hotel, Pasay City and attended by over 500 media, bankers and dealers nationwide, introduces not only the latest upgrades on two of Suzuki’s popular vehicles but also the revolutionary Japanese technology behind these newest innovations.

“We are grateful for the strong support we continue to receive from the Filipino market, particularly during the first months of the year. As testament of our commitment to delivering only the best-quality products and services, we at Suzuki Philippines are more than happy to finally share with everyone the all-new Dzire and all-new Swift equipped with the latest of our innovative technology. I am optimistic that these latest product offerings will drive SPH to new milestones, all while staying true to the goal of sharing with more Filipinos the Suzuki Way of Life,” shared SPH Vice President and General Manager for Automotive Shuzo Hoshikura.

All-New Dzire: The sedan to look out for
Designed for wise and practical millennials and young professionals, the all-new Dzire is a comfortable sedan in a compact body with advanced technology and features to enhance the driving experience. It packs the Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology, which combines the fuel efficiency of a manual transmission and convenience of an automatic transmission.

A revolutionary first in the Philippines, the AGS technology is an automated manual transmission featuring an Intelligent Shift Control Actuator that automatically operates the clutch and shifting operation. It allows for smooth automated gear changes or shifting from manual transmission without having to step on the clutch pedal and operate a shift lever, thus, ensuring precise gear shifting based on vehicle speed.

A fusion of practicality and style, the new Dzire is lower and wider than the previous model. The compact body makes the sedan light and easy to take on any city adventure yet sports a sleek and confident style. The larger boot capacity ensures there is enough space for luggage for a business trip or quick getaway.

All-New Swift: Award-winning hatchback
The all-new Swift boasts a daring transformation while retaining old features that Filipinos loved—strong shoulders, blacked-out A-pillars for wrap-around windows, dynamic side-window treatment and distinctive vertically arranged lamps. These are complemented by a black interior with a white pearl accent and a dimple pattern to create a fresher look.

To emphasize the sporty and confident look, the well-loved hatchback is now shorter, lower and wider with a muscular structure. The compact dimensions guarantee easy handling but do not compromise comfort. The vehicle’s luggage space has been expanded by 54L for more storage capacity than the previous model.

To deliver superior fuel efficiency, the new Swift adopts continuously variable transmission (CVT), which makes driving smoother and gear change shock-free for better acceleration at low speeds and improved fuel economy at high speeds.

Top-tier performance and safety

Chief Engineer Masao Kobori of Suzuki Motor Corporation shares his inspiration in creating the all-new Dzire and Swift.

Both the upgraded Dzire and Swift boast Suzuki’s new-generation platform, HEARTECT. The continuous frame resulting from the comprehensive overhaul of the vehicles’ underbody structure and component layout increases underbody stiffness. The highly rigid yet light body helps improve vehicle performance.

The new smooth curving form also effectively disperses impact energy throughout the car body in case of a collision.

Both vehicles’ structure is specially designed to feature Total Effective Control Technology to absorb impact and mitigate injury in case of a pedestrian accident. They are equipped with dual airbags for maximum passenger protection.

“We introduced a new- generation platform and engineered a completely new chassis, body structure and powertrain with a new body structure. We set out to create a car that would let people experience a new level of excitement like never before! The instant they see it, the instant they get inside and the instant they step on the accelerator,” said Masao Kobori, Chief Engineer of the all-new Suzuki Dzire and Swift.

Models and pricing
The all-new Dzire comes in two variants: the GL MT and GL+AGS. The GL MT is available in Premium Arctic White, Metallic Silky Silver and Premium Midnight Black colors and lists at P638,000 SRP. The GL+AGS variant comes in Premium Oxford Blue, Premium Sherwood Brown, Premium Arctic White, Premium Midnight Black and Metallic Magma Gray colors and has an SRP of P698,000.

The well-loved Swift has three variants: the GL MT priced at P755,000, GL CVT at P799,000  and the GLX CVT at P899,000.The six color options of the hatchback—Speedy Blue Metallic, Fervent Red, Pure White Pearl, Premium Silver Metallic, Mineral Gray Metallic and Super Black Pearl—allow riders to reflect their individuality and personality better.

PIDS expert says income tax cuts justified; warns gov’t of revenue loss

Proposals to amend the personal income tax schedule appear to be well-justified. However, these proposals should include measures that will allow government to recover the revenue loss from lower income taxes. Dr. Rosario Manasan, senior research fellow of state think-tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), said at a seminar sponsored by the Philippine Senate, that government should look for new revenue measures to compensate for the projected revenue loss that will arise as a result of the implementation of any of the various proposals to restructure the personal income tax. Currently, there are several income tax reform proposals pending in both houses of Congress. All of them, according to Dr. Manasan, have the same objective of addressing the phenomenon of bracket creep, which results from “non-indexation to inflation of personal income tax brackets”. Simply put, bracket creep occurs when employees’ income increases over time as a result of inflation. Th
