Batac
City—For a better and more conducive Batac
Public Market, the city government here has allocated at least PHP15 million
for its improvement.
Batac Mayor Albert D. Chua
confirmed this after he received the program of works and the availability of
funds coming from the local finance committee.
The improvement includes a proposed
façade, replacement of roofing and rehabilitation of the truss of meat and fish
section building with an allocated amount of PHP3,017,000; replacement of
roofing of the meat and fish section, PHP1.6 million; relocation of the carinderia section, PHP2 million; construction
of tables and flooring for meat and fish section, PHP2.5 million; installation
of ceiling spandrel at the ground floor of the public market building, PHP2,290,500;
proposed secondary roofing at the public market main building, PHP2,665,600; and
the provision of louver and natural light vent at the northern part of the
public market main building, PHP1,325,900.00.
Mr. Chua said they proposed the
improvements due to complaints lodged at his office from the stall owners and
the public as well.
“Nasintir ko pay ngamin a dagidi sumagmamanu a planu ta market ket saan nga umiso tay talaga a kasapulan
ket ti kayat ko, no marugyanen ket maminpinsan iti garaw tapnun makaliklik tayo
dagitay unnecessary a panag gastos
tayo,” Mr. Chua said.
He is hopeful the
construction will start soon after completion of the public bidding.
At present, Mr. Chua said
that they are improving lighting around the public market. This, he said,
allows traders to drop off their products anytime.
He added that it will be up
to the general contractor to relocate the affected vendors for their business’
continuity.
In a random interview with
the vendors and the public, they expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the
city government through the city mayor for considering the problems at the
market and their predicaments.
