City of Batac—The city government here is urging all utility companies to remove or fix dangling and jumbled wires within the city’s boundaries.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod specifically passed a unanimous resolution asking a cable and internet provider company to initiate this directive.

The previous sanggunian has also passed a similar resolution.

Batac councilor Christopher B. Lagmay, the movant of said resolution, said they noticed that the dangling and jumbled utility wires have been increasing in volume, especially in the city proper.

He stressed that those wires are now not only “eyesores” but dangerous as they could cause accidents.

In view of this, the city government here noted that it will continue to use its power for the promotion of the general welfare of its people.

On October 31, 2019, utility companies and other utility agencies expressed their willingness to comply with this request.

Some of the utility companies have started their clearing operations with the help of the city government.

Mr. Lagmay also requested the inclusion of this problem in the city’s urban planning. He opined that this is to assure the general welfare of the people in conformity with RA 7160, the Local Government Code of 1991.

Batac Mayor Albert D Chua certified the resolution as urgent.

In Laoag City, officials of private utility and telecommunication companies also attended regular sessions of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Laoag to tackle the same problem.

Laoag councilors queried the companies’ representatives on the situation of their respective wires and cables.

The Laoag council move is in line with the President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s directive on road widening and road clearing wherein electric posts may need relocation.

However, some posts had a lot of wires from different companies and that they should also do their part to remove and fix then order to comply with the President’s directive.
