PLDT launches MVP Bossing 2020

Manila—PLDT Enterprise, the B2B arm of the Philippine's largest and only integrated telecommunications company PLDT, launches the “MVP Bossing 2020” campaign to inspire enterprises to rediscover and reinvent their businesses today to successfully thrive in the future.

Semi-annually, PLDT holds the MVP Bossing Awards to give tribute to the Filipino entrepreneurial spirit, celebrating local business owners who have achieved success, with the aim of inspiring others to pursue their dreams and aspirations. This year, MVP Bossing takes on a digital format given the impact of the global pandemic on social events and gatherings.

With the theme "Rediscovery. Reinvention”, PLDT Enterprise aims to convey a message of hope—as challenging times bring forth the call to reinvent and rediscover—through the stories of previous MVP Bossing awardees and new aspiring MVP Bossings that have strived to recover from the current situation.

"Through this campaign, we want to inspire all of the businesses out there - no matter their size - to rise above the challenges of the global pandemic, to rediscover new opportunities and to not be afraid to reinvent their ways of working," said Jovy Hernandez, ePLDT President & CEO and SVP & Head for PLDT and Smart Enterprise Business Groups.

"This campaign will gather previous MVP Bossings and aspiring Bossings to tell their stories and inspire other entrepreneurs to rediscover and reinvent their businesses – through the power of technology - in this new future that we are in," Hernandez added.

MVP Bossing 2020 kicks off with the inspiring stories of Toby’s Sports founder Bobby Claudio and Dr. Carl Balita of Carl Balita Review Center (CBRC). Claudio shares how Toby’s resorted into digital and contactless services to continue providing for the sports and wellness needs of Filipinos especially with health being a top priority today. Balita, meanwhile, tells his story of how the shift to e-learning left an impact to the many branches of CRBC nationwide.

PLDT Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan likewise seeks to inspire confidence and hope to businesses amid the situation through the campaign. “To our business leaders, I would like to take this chance to commend you for all your efforts in keeping the wheels of our economy going in time of exceptional crisis. But we have a much better chance at recovery if all of us work together in building a new future,” said Pangilinan.

MVP Bossing 2020 was launched during GoNegosyo’s 15th Anniversary e-Cocktails: Toast to Prosperity.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
