LAOAG CITY—The Provincial
Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) is again inviting out-of-school youth and
vacationing students who wish to apply for summer job opportunities under the
Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
On March 25, 2219, several
applicants joined a long queue at the Capitol lobby leading to the Provincial
Public Employment and Service Office (PESO) located at the west wing of the
Capitol ground floor for screening.
According to the Provincial
Public Employment and Service Office (PESO), there are 400 slots available to Ilocano youth aged 16 to 30 years old under the SPES
program this summer.
The beneficiaries shall
render at least 15 days of service to different offices in the provincial
Capitol starting April to May.
Lizette Bitancor-Atuan, PESO head said “Applicants
should submit a duly-accomplished application form issued by PESO, a photocopy
of NSO birth certificate, certificate of
grades or class cards and five pieces of passport size picture.”
The SPES is an employment
bridging program for high school, technical or vocational, and tertiary
students aged 16-30-year old during summer vacation that aims at augmenting the
family’s income of poor but deserving students.
Employers from public and
private institutions usually provide SPES beneficiaries with office work such
administrative and clerical jobs.
Meanwhile, technical and
vocational students will also be given the opportunity to assist in
construction and automotive jobs depending on the available vacancies.
Pegged at PHP280 per day rate,
60 percent of the salaries of the beneficiaries will be shouldered by the
provincial government and 40 percent by the Department of Labor and Employment.
If the parents of the
applicant are farmer, tricycle driver or fisherman, he/she is required to
submit a certificate of indigence issued by their barangay chairperson.
For those applicants whose
parents are self-employed, private or government employee, they must submit the
latest income tax return of parents or a certificate issued by the Bureau of
Internal Revenue that the parents are exempted from the payment of tax.
