Dingras, Ilocos Note—The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) is set resume disconnection operations in August 2020 for unpaid power bills for the months of March and April.

It was during March and April where the national government declared an enhanced community quarantine in the country, including Ilocos Norte.

INEC general manager Engr. Felino Herbert P. Agdigos stressed that the four-month grace period for the ECQ ends in August.

Ket no saan da mabayadan ket isun to tay pinangiyuswat mi tay disconnection kasi napaot metten didiay a pawayway kadakwada,” Agdigos explained.

He disclosed that INEC will start with the disconnection on August 18, 2020 for unsettled bills during the ECQ. The disconnection operation will apply for both residential and commercial consumers.

Liwanag Pantawid program

Meanwhile, Agdigos also announced the successful implementation of the Liwanag Pantawid program exclusively for the ECQ months.

The said program aimed to lessen the burden of consumers during the ECQ.

The power cooperative claimed that they did not bill consumers who used 30 kilowatt-hour or less during the two-month ECQ period.

The INEC official said they sourced the payment for those from the budgeted programs and activities intended for the annual general membership assembly (AGMA) and INEC board elections which were cancelled.

Relocation of electric posts

Agdigos also revealed that they also suspended the relocation of electric posts.

He added that they have relocated at least 50 percent of the total electric posts that need relocation before the ECQ.

He also mentioned that INEC has now finished relocating up to 70 percent as they resumed in May, or when the ECQ was lowered to GCQ.

No revenue from schools

Agdigos also divulged that INEC will have a decrease in revenue as a result of schools closing and resuming through online classes.

“Automatic nga no saan a mausar dagitoy school buildings a ket bumaba met iti revenue ket tay projected revenue tayo ita a tawen ket sigurado a saan a ma-attain,” Agdigos explained.

As of press time, Agdigos estimated a 10 percent decrease in electric consumption from schools/

July power rates

Electric rates for the month of July is PHP7.95 per kilowatt-hour, or a PHP0.39 decrease from the June billing, which was PHP8.34 per kilowatt-hour for residential consumers.

For small and large commercial consumers, INEC said there will be a PHP0.37 decrease, or PHP6.96, for July from June’s rate of PHP7.33.
